Today we looked at how matter can change! Learners came up with questions just like scientists do! They observed how a solid ice ball can change when adding salt and water. Learners also discussed what learner profile traits they had to use to be successful with their experiment. It was so much fun!!
Learners have been working hard this week! We have been working on analyzing graphs in math. Here is a graph we are looking at this week.
We have also been comparing and contrasting fiction and nonfiction books. Learners are reading nonfiction books during independent reading time. We are working on identifying facts and opinions and discussing how nonfiction text features help us learn more about what we are reading.
Learners are also working hard to write stories.
We have kicked off our second inquiry unit, How We Organize Ourselves. Learners read a story about different barnyard animals. They decided who they thought would be the best leader. Then, learners presented to the class to try and persuade the class to vote for them. We had great conversations about the characteristics that would help a leader be successful.
Learners have been working hard this week! We have been working on identifying story elements in classic fiction stories.
We have also been exploring different objects and looking at their properties. It is fun to think creatively like a scientist!
Learners have also been working on skip counting and identifying numbers on a number line.

Today we experimented with color to go along with our unit!
We have had a great week! Learners have started using their Ipads in the classroom for different activities, we have officially kicked off our first inquiry unit and we presented our "Not A Boxes."
We had a great second day of second grade! Learners practiced two morning choice activities. Today they practiced working cooperatively with Legos and free draw. We also had independent reading time. Learners did a great job of picking out books for their book bins. They also worked in groups to represent numbers in different ways.
We had a great day today. Learners presented their biography to parents, third grade and fifth grade during the Living Museum. We also got to make a Thanksgiving turkey out of Oreos and Candy Corn with our fifth grade buddies today!
This week learners have been working to practice new spelling words.

We have been discussing local, state and federal leaders in this unit. Learners worked in groups to create tree maps representing parts of each level of government.
Today, learners continued exploring how objects move. We focused on how objects spin.
