Last week we finished up our Who We Are unit by discussing how various systems keep citizens safe and organized. Learners did a great job making connections between all of the different systems they have become knowledgeable about! We also discussed various types of communities while finishing up learning about our community system. Ask your learner what features make up an urban, suburban, and rural community! Learners also worked on identifying strategies to give meaning to unfamiliar words when they read. We discussed different context clues strategies to apply. We will start talking about cause and effect this week!
As we begin working in our How the World Works unit, we have started discussing different types of soil. Today, learners participated in a soil lab! We made observations of three different types of soil and looked at their features when wet and dry.
Learners got brand new spelling words today! We will be working on ed and ing word endings for our new sort. It was also the first day of Red Ribbon Week. Learners wore crazy socks to represent how they go crazy for exercise!
This week we have been working on comparing and contrasting while reading. Learners have practiced using key comparing and contrasting vocabulary by looking at different pictures, reading different stories, and creating Venn Diagrams!
In math, learners have been practicing the break apart method and using place value to add sums! They are getting good! Learners have also been working hard on their new spelling words. This week we talked about long sounding vowels in vowel diagraphs.
Today learners brainstormed adjectives that describe themselves and created a poster to represent all of the descriptive words they came up with! We have also been researching how communities have changed over time!
We were also able to celebrate Siena's birthday and had an awesome mystery reader!
