Learners have been reading about different types of penguins in Daily 5. After reading about penguins, learners identified the main idea and supporting details. This will help them write about what they have learned tomorrow!
Check out these pictographs learners created after collecting data from their survey about ecosystems.
Our favorite part of the day today...
We have started discussing decomposers, producers, and consumers we find in various ecosystems. We observed snails and decided they were an example of a decomposer. 3B is loving our Sharing The Planet unit!!
In math this week learners have been collecting and organizing data about ecosystems to create their own frequency table and pictograph! Learners were able to survey the class as well as other students and teachers to create their graphs.
We have kicked off our second inquiry unit, Sharing The Planet!! Learners were able to complete a survival activity where they had to work as a team to figure out how they would survive in an ecosystem that had suffered from a natural disaster. Learners had great conversations and practiced their communication and cooperation skills.
Thank you all for coming out and supporting our school at Pinky Palooza! I had a great time!
Learners have been working on identifying main idea and supporting details as they are reading. Ms. Hays taught the class how the main idea is different from the topic of a story. Learners created tree maps to represent the topic, main idea, and supporting details they read about.
In math, learners have been working on several strategies to add and subtract numbers. This week, we started adding and subtracting numbers with regrouping!!
As we are coming to the end of our inquiry unit, Who We Are, learners have been working hard to create their utopian community. Each department was responsible for identifying features that would help our community run smoothly. Each group also had to think creatively about what would make our community more sustainable and unique. Our city planning committee met to lay out where each feature would go. Then, each group had to construct their ideas out of all of the materials they had brought to class. Learners had to collaborate and work together as a class! Check out each step of the constructing process!
We had a guidance lesson this week! Learners talked about making good choices and what to do when we face big and little problems. We also LOVED pajama day!!
In math, learners have been working on addition and subtraction using multiple strategies. One of their new favorite games to play is "Close to 100". Learners have to decide how to arrange digits in order to get a sum that is as close to 100 as possible. We have also started using number lines to help us determine sums and differences.
In our inquiry unit, Who We Are, learners have been working hard to create a utopian community. In our community we have a housing department, transportation department, economic development department, as well as a government services department. Each learner is working with their specific department to help incorporate structures of their community and coming up with creative ways to design a community that is a true utopia. Learners are having to utilize good communication and learning that communities change as a result of individual and group decisions.
Today learners set up their Google classroom! Mrs. Sims helped our class get set up and complete their first assignment. We are also continuing our weekly Spanish lessons. Learners are working on vocabulary as well as how to answer a variety of questions.
