This week learners continued learning about different ways to express themselves. Learners worked in groups to perform a classic story. We talked about how drama is a way of self expression. Learners read a classic story with their group and then performed for the class. We have also been working on expressing ourselves through creative writing. Learners have gone through the writing process of writing, editing and revising with a partner and completing a final draft.
In math, learners have been working on identifying exact points on a number line.
Today, learners worked in partners to explore how matter can change from a solid to a liquid. Learners had to rescue a Lego man that was frozen inside of an ice cube. They discovered that salt was the best tool to use. We also experimented with different materials to see what could keep an ice cube in the form of a solid for the longest amount of time.
We have had a great week so far! This week we have been practicing reading stamina and discussing story elements. Learners have been responding in their Reader's Response Journal each day. Some of the things they are working on while reading are thinking about things they like in their book, making connections, identifying main characters and settings, and identifying the problem and solution in their story.
In math, learners discussed the difference between odd and even numbers this week. They have also been playing a new favorite game, Place Value Yahtzee. We are also continuing to work on addition facts.
We are also continuing to explore matter. We began exploring liquids today with a fun science experiment with milk, food coloring and dish soap!
We have also loved learning more about our very first Star of the Week this week!
Morning Choice is a big hit!
Today we talked all about scientists. Learners were able to become scientists and explore different objects. They sorted objects like scientists would. They also came up with their own researchable and testable questions using question words like a scientist.
