This week learners worked on practicing comparing and ordering numbers. Learners played several comparing and ordering number games and answered questions in their Go Math workbook. Learners also continued practicing their fact fluency on Xtramath. Learners continued working on their Reader's Response books this week. We also discussed the difference between fact and fiction. Learners found examples in the books they are reading! Learners finished writing Cinquain poems this week and started writing a creative story. We also discussed the important story elements in fiction stories. For Frizzle Friday this week we worked on testing different objects to see if they were magnetic, how much they weighed, and if they would sink or float. These tests answered some of the questions learners asked last week during Frizzle Friday. Learners also have been working hard on their drama skit with their group this week. Drama is also a way to express yourself! Groups have picked a classic story to act out. Learners are using Reader's Theater scripts to help them practice which also works on reading fluency! We got to end the week with our awesome guest reader, Mrs. Fang!
Friday was a great day in 2B! We started off our morning with guidance. Mrs. Kirkley played Kindness Bingo with the class. We also celebrated Dot Day. Learners created art using only dots! It was also a great way to continue our discussion of self expression! In math, learners answered place value questions. We called it a Scoot because they moved around the room to find each question. They did a great job! For Frizzle Friday, learners explored various objects in groups. They asked questions about the objects and then decided if their question was testable or researchable. We also had our first Guest Reader. Thank you Mrs. Alles for reading to the class!
Last week learners participated in our very first Real School Garden lesson. Learners used items from the garden to create numbers while working on place value. We continued experimenting with color last week too! Yesterday, learners continued working in our unit and discovered that story telling is a way to express yourself. They worked in partners and listened to stories. They also worked to organize each event in the story. Today we talked about how good readers are always thinking while they read. We added "I Wonders" to our text coding. Now learners are responding to things they like and wonder about the books they are reading! Learners also went to library today and practiced their new spelling words!
We have had a busy week so far! Learners have continued discussing ways to express themselves and created a collage. Today, learners started reading a new book. They are responding as they read in their Reader's Response journal. We are practicing our word work procedures this week. Today learners practiced their routine when they get a new list of words. Spelling will officially start next week! Learners were able to use our classroom mini Ipads today in math stations. Learners completed their first round of Xtramath to practice their fact fluency, played addition and subtraction games, and met with me to practice place value.
Today was such a fun day! We started out our day working in the garden with Mrs. Pickrell and our 5B buddies! We planted all kinds of different flowers and learners were able to record observations in their Inquiry Journal. Today learners also explored color in our first science experiment!
