Last week learners continued working to identify characteristics of 2D shapes. This week we have started talking more in depth about the characteristics of 3D shapes. They also looked at several fables and we discussed what makes a fable a fable. Learners also presented their business plans to 4th grade! In order to show the free market in action, 4th graders were able to "shop" at any of the 3rd grade businesses. Our learners gave them a summary of their business and the 4th graders were able to choose if they wanted to be their customer based on their needs, the price of the good or service, and if they felt like they understood their business model. It gave us a great opportunity to discuss supply and demand! After meeting with 4th grade learners, our 3rd graders were able to change anything they wanted in order to get more customers. Today, learners began presenting their projects in class.
This week we have been focusing on using commas correctly in a series while writing. Learners got together in partners to create their own sentence to practice correctly using commas. We also kicked off our new unit, How We Express Ourselves! We played a game of telephone and then discussed how the story changed with each new person. We discussed how that is similar to how folktales are passed down through generations. Mrs. Freyou also discussed folktales and fables in library this week! We also started working with new spelling words this week.
We have also started learning about different shapes, lines, and angles this week. So far learners have identified three different types of angles, different types of lines, quadrilaterals, and polygons!
As we start our new unit, we are also finishing up our summative project for our last unit. Learners have been working to finish their simple business plan presentation. They are looking great!
Looking forward to another great week next week and our Valentine's Day party tomorrow!
